Sessile Oak Tree Walkway

In support of Failte Ireland’s Ancient East we were keen to offer the opportunity for our guests to make history with us and leave their own green footprint on the grounds of Ballymaloe House. Ballymaloe House is steeped in history and surrounded by lush countryside and the idea of planting a “Sessile Oak Tree Walkway” began. This initiative fulfils both our objective to preserve and secure the future of the grounds, whilst also offering the opportunity for our many loyal guests to leave their family mark on the estate.

On Friday last, 15th July, long time visitors to Ballymaloe House, the Herbert family firmly laid their roots here. Four generations of Herbert’s gathered at Ballymaloe House and were delighted to plant our very first trees in the new Sessile Oak tree walkway.

Mr & Mrs Michael Herbert, along with his in laws Mr & Mrs Johnston, planted the first tree (#1) together and Mr Herbert helped his grandson Zachery Graham to plant his tree (#2). Zachery’s baby brother Jordan watched from his mother’s arms as his father David Graham plant his tree (#3). The family made an occasion of the planting ceremony and we at Ballymaloe felt is was a very special event. We look forward to welcoming the extended Herbert family back to Ballymaloe House every year for generations to come, and that they will enjoy seeing their Sessile oak trees grow to maturity.
