Ballymaloe House took part in a national Irish Gin & Tonic Festival, 20th – 25th June organised by Great Irish Beverages. This week long, fun & entertaining festival celebrated Ireland’s new drink of choice. Craft Irish distilled spirits have finally began reappearing around Ireland by a selection of distilleries, each creating a unique and wonderful spirit using local ingredients.
Ballymaloe House served Berthas Revenge Gin distilled in nearby Ballyvolane House, Cork. The gin is distilled in small batches on the farmyard in Ballyvolane and is unique in it’s style as it is the first Irish gin to distil whey, a by-product from milk and cheese production from local Irish dairy farmers, essentially an Irish Milk Gin. We served it with Poachers Irish tonic water, another new and craft made product from County Wexford. The gin & tonic is garnished with a slice of orange and a sprig of fresh rosemary from the Walled Garden.
The Ballymaloe bar also offered a tasting board of 3 Irish gins, each garnished accordingly served with a choice of tonic.
You may have missed the festival during your stay but we always stock a great range of interesting gins made right on your doorstep so please ask our bar staff.
