A Christmas Concert with Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin & SonsThey have twice delighted Grainstore audiences, so we've invited them back for a third night of Christmas music, song, story and humour. The iconic composer and musician is again joined by his NY-based sons, Owen and Moley whose unique style incorporates rap and beat box.Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin is internationally renowned as a traditional musician, classical composer, and musicologist. His piano playing is legendary and his work in third level music education has had a massive impact on Irish traditional culture. His performances are spirited, funny, and lively.He will be joined by his sons, Owen and Moley, who are currently living in New York City and performing all over America. The brothers have a unique song-writing and singing style that incorporates Sean Nos, Gregorian Chant with rap and beat. With their father they'll perform Christmas music along with a wide range of songs, story and music that will be a delight for all tastes and ages.Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin has balanced his career as a performer, composer, and recording artist with his work in academia. An internationally acclaimed performer, he is acknowledged as having developed a unique Irish piano style exploring the sounds of traditional and classical music with occasional incursions into jazz and other world music forms.in 2013 he stepped down as director of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, a world class centre of learning and practice that he established in 1994 at the University of Limerick, and is now composing full-time.He has released more than ten CDs of his own compositions and arrangements performed by the Irish Chamber Orchestra under his direction.His sons, Owen (33) and Moley (29), are singers, speakers and composers who perform a cross-section of musical styles for beguiled audiences across the world. With seeming simplicity they sing and tell their story of inheritance and originality with a humour and authenticity that is always a meaningful experience. The brothers share a grain of the voice that is hypnotic when singing in unison and electric when singing in harmony.It is this familial sound that has been so striking for so many audiences worldwide - to be joined by their renowned father will be an unmissable evening in the Christmas spirit.The brothers have performed with Russell Crowe, The Chieftains, Bobby McFerrin, renowned poet David Whyte, Brian Kennedy, Julie Feeney and violinist Nigel Kennedy. Director Steven Spielberg is a fan who cast them to sing in his 2012 movie, War Horse.Actor Russell Crowe said, "I'm a huge fan of Owen and Moley, from the inspired mastery of their harmonies, to the streetwise intellect of their humour. Unique, unaffected, awesome."Their goal is to "write songs that lift and apprentice the human heart to generosity and gratitude, and the songs must also be groovy!". They have just released an album of original songs called "Happy Songs" and are currently working on a third album of sacred a capella song from many traditions.
