Junior Sommelier

We are seeking a motivated candidate with strong interpersonal skills to join our award-winning team at Ballymaloe House, in a role of a Junior Sommelier. Previous experience as a sommelier and extensive knowledge of different wines and regions are essential, ability to work cohesively with an established team is required.

The Role

The successful candidate will be working closely with the Head Sommelier, Samuel Chantoiseau, reporting to Food & Beverage Manager.  

Day to day duties will include:

  • Create and update the award-winning Ballymaloe House wine list
  • Interaction with the guests during the service
  • Recommending guests, the wines based on their personal tastes and food choice
  • Provide the knowledge to guests about wine varieties and prices
  • Ensure wines are served at the right temperature and in the appropriate glassware.
  • Ensure that opened bottles are stored properly 
  • Assist Head Sommelier with the management of the Ballymaloe House wine cellar 
  • Carry out stock takes
  • Training of the waiting team about available wines and current promotions
  • Communicate clearly with the bar and front of the house teams
  • Assist in the organisation and the management of wine events
  • Comply with and help with the management of Health & Safety
  • Maintain food hygiene practices and food safety standards (HACCP

This is a full-time permanent position; the nature of the industry means that this role will include a variety of shifts and weekend work.
