World's Best... October 2021

We are thrilled to have been awarded European Regional winner in the Best Short Wine List category in The World of Fine Wine 'World's Best Wine Lists 2021' and following assessment by the panel of Judges at the World of Fine Wine, Ballymaloe House has secured a TWO STAR WINE LIST Award.

The Judges were strongly impressed by our wine list and provided the following feedback:

  • This list has good breadth through the range of origin, style, grape varieties, by-the-glass offerings, and across smaller and larger formats. This includes where there may be a particular specialism or regional theme.
  • The list is extremely well balanced, with an excellent mix of regions, producers, styles, famous and good but less well-known producers, older and younger vintages, highly rated and underrated years, the "smart buys" as well as the icons, options in half-bottles and larger formats.
  • It offers real depth with an excellent number of different producers and wines in a particular region or style, and availability of different vintages, and older vintages.
  • In terms of height, there is a good availability of very good or top-quality producers by official ranking or reputation.
  • The quality of the individual selections is excellent.
  • Having made allowance for different languages and alphabets, this list is characterized by excellent accuracy in terms of spelling. It has excellent readability and legibility, is easy to read in terms of font and spacing, and easy to navigate.

In addition, the World of Fine Wine Judges noted specifically 'Lovely to see a list that indicates which wines are organic, biodynamic or natural. There is a focus on these wines, all of which are well selected.'

Huge congratulations to our sommelier Samuel Chantoiseau (in photo).
