An Evening with Johnny McEvoy

We are delighted to welcome Johnny McEvoy for his first performance in The Grainstore.

This nostalgic evening of song and story features all of Johnny's many hit songs, including Muirsin Durkan, Boston Burglar, Those Brown Eyes, and Long Long Before Your Time. His songs are haunting, evocative and beautifully presented in folk and ballad style.

The short stories of Cork-born Frank O'Connor are universally regarded as classics of their kind.

Now, for the first time, three of those funniest stories - My Oedipus Complex, The Genius and First Confession - are brought together within a single full-length play that provides a hugely entertaining and uplifting night of theatre.

Eddi Reader

We are delighted to welcome back Eddi Reader after her sold-out shows in 2015 and 2014. The internationally acclaimed and enigmatic Scottish songstress performs here as part of her eighth annual Irish tour.

Eddi will be performing with John Douglas and Boo Hewerdine on guitars, Alan Kelly on piano accordion and Kevin McGuire on double bass.

Irish accordionist Sharon Shannon has achieved legendary status throughout the world and made the much-maligned accordion 'cool' in her home country. She is renowned for her collaborations, not just in Irish traditional music, but through all musical genres, from hip-hop, cajun, country, classical to rap.

They have twice delighted Grainstore audiences, so we've invited them back for a third night of Christmas music, song, story and humour. The iconic composer and musician is again joined by his NY-based sons, Owen and Moley whose unique style incorporates rap and beat box.

Cork chanteuse Trish Rooney has put together a big show of sensational singers and musicians, including Brendan McCahey, winner of the Voice of Ireland 2014, and Velvin Lamont, a 2013 Voice of Ireland finalist.

Darina Allen receives Outstanding Achievement Award

Congratulations from everyone at Ballymaloe House to Darina Allen on receiving an Outstanding Achievement Award from Cork Chamber in association with EY on Tuesday 18th November at a prestigious awards event at The DoubleTree Hilton, Dublin acknowledging and celebrating her commitment to promoting Irish food.

Gillian Keating, president of Cork Chamber, said that Darina Allen in her capacity as owner of Ballymaloe Cookery School had put Irish food on the world stage.

Lemon Meringue Pie

First make the pastry.

Sieve the flour with the salt, cut the butter into cubes and rub into the flour with the fingertips. Keep everything as cool as possible; if the fat is allowed to melt the finished pastry may be tough. When the mixture looks like coarse breadcrumbs, stop.

Web Summit Concluded with Dinner in Ballymaloe

The 2014 Web Summit in Dublin concluded with a dinner at Ballymaloe Grainstore and Ballymaloe House for the F.ounders Group, an assembly of 280 international technology leaders, on Friday 7 November.

The evening was designed to encourage the flow of conversation and ideas. It began with a reception in Ballymaloe Grainstore where canapes served included Irish Native Oysters, Black sole Sushi, Chinese Duck Soup, Parsnip & Beetroot Crisps, Crab Wontons and Pork Yuk Sung washed down with Cremant d'Alsace.
