A revolution in Irish food and cooking with Ballymaloe

Sean Dunne from Irish Central, a hugely popular Irish-American website, recently posted a comprehensive article about Ballymaloe.

The revolution in Irish cooking and the uptake in organic wholesome food where the focus is on ingredients, can be credited to one family in Ireland, the Allens.

The family who own the famous Irish cooking school Ballymaloe, are the ones who helped start the revolution towards Irish food with their family run business which now spans four generations.

Ballymaloe wins 'Best Restaurant Wine List & Wine Service' Award

We were delighted to win the nationwide award for 'Best Restaurant Wine List and Wine Service' in the annual wine awards by well known wine writer, Tomás Clancy, published in the Sunday Business Post.

Ballymaloe House Hotel celebrates 50 years of Business

This year Ballymaloe House is delighted to be celebrating 50 years in business. In June of 1964, Myrtle Allen first opened the Yeats Room at Ballymaloe, offering guests the opportunity to ‘Dine in an Irish Country House’.

RNLI Fundraising Gala Dinner

The fundraising team for the Ballycotton RNLI are continuing a long tradition and hosting a fundraising dinner at Ballymaloe House Hotel in Cork on Friday 31st January 2014. This year is particularly special as The Allen’s are celebrating 50 years of business at Ballymaloe House and it would not have happened at all if Mrs Myrtle Allen had not first met Ivan Allen at an RNLI dinner in Ballymaloe House Hotel, then owned by The Simpsons.

Christmas Day at Ballymaloe

Every year Ballymaloe closes for a few days over Christmas when the house returns to a family home and this year we had a record number of 64 family and friends for Christmas dinner.

Myrtle gives everyone a job - cooking, waitressing, making pre dinner cocktails, washing up, organising games etc.

This year Cully got the very important roll as head chef! But with several very will qualified sous chefs (including Darina) and a cocktail or two to keep things festive, it was one of the more enjoyable jobs.

25th Cork French Festival

Candlelit supper with live 1960s French pop music and screening of Jean-Luc Godard's Le Mepris (France, 1964).

A screenwriter finds his marriage falling apart as he attempts to get started on a film version of The Odyssey. Godard's sublime epic stars Michel Picolii and Brigitte Bardot.

Rachel Allen named Cork Person of the Month for December 2013

Rachel was delighted to be named Cork Person of the Month in December 2013.

The organisers of the competition pointed out that 2013 marked the 30th anniversary of Ballymaloe Cookery School. A spokesperson for the organisers said that "Ms Allen received the December Person of the Month award to mark her many successes in good food promotion and preparation, through her TV series, cookery books, journalism and teaching."

Cinema & Supper Club - The Commitments

Supper in the Grainstore from 7pm - Screening of The Commitments (1991) at 8pm on Friday 14 March - St. Patrick's Weekend.

Welcome to our new monthly film series that will combine a casual offering of quality Ballymaloe food paired with a quality film.

From 7pm we'll be offering a blackboard menu served from the bar in the Grainstore. Choose from among soup, sandwiches, charcuterie, cheese boards and dessert, order a drink, and take a seat. We'll be set up cabaret style, making for a convivial evening.
