Darina Wins Cookbook of the Year!

We are delighted to announce that Darina Allen's latest book '30 Years at Ballymaloe' was awarded The 'Avonmore Cookbook of the Year' award at the Irish Book Awards last night.

Darina's book celebrates her 30 years at Ballymaloe Cookery School which first opened it's doors to students in 1983, at which time there were 15 cookery courses available. Now there are over 100 courses each year. These are reflected in the recipes collected in this book.

Supper Club Spice Trail Night with Sunil Ghai

We look forward to welcoming guest Chef Sunil Ghai who is not only the foremost Indian chef in Ireland, but Food & Wine’s Chef of the Year 2009 to Ballymaloe House next Tuesday evening the 26th of November.

Sunil is the Executive Chef at Ananda Resturaunt in Dublin, he regularly spends time working with the team at Benares in London under renowned Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar.

Raspberry Fool

Liquidise and then sieve raw fruit.
Dissolve sugar in water.
boil for 1 minute and leave to cool.
It should set to a jelly.
Boil again, if it does not.
Mix to taste with fruit and add whipped cream and stiffly beaten egg white.

White Soda Bread

Preheat the oven to 250deg C

Sieve the dry ingredients. Make a well in the centre. Pour in all the milk at once. Using 1 hand, with your fingers stiff and outstretched like a claw, stir in a full circular movement from the centre to the outside of the bowl in ever increasing circles. The dough should be softish, not too wet and sticky. When it all comes together, turn it out onto a well-floured work surface. Wash and dry your hands.

Myrtle Allen awarded, 'Diplome d'Honneur le Cordon Bleu'

Mrs. Myrtle Allen has been awarded by Monsieur André Cointreau with an honourary award of distinction from Le Cordon Bleu in France. It was in association with The 21st Cork French Film Festival's Gala dinner that was held in Ballymaloe yesterday evening. The Gala dinner was followed by a screening of the popular film of 'Julie & Julia'.

Kinsale Pottery & Art Centre Run a One Day Workshop in conjunction with Ballymaloe

Adrian Wisteich from Kinsale Pottery & Arts Centre is running a one-day workshop in Ballymaloe on Saturday, February 27th 2010. In one day you will learn to throw on the potter's wheel, hand-build figures and pots and produce some unique coloured clay work. The course will include the following;
